Preaching Care for Creation All Year Long
There are three internet sites that provide care for creation reflections for preaching on the lessons of the three-year lectionary cycle. All three provide excellent resources for preachers.
1. The Christian Ecology Link, is a multi-denominational organization from the United Kingdom for people concerned about the environment. They have provided Ecological Notes on the Common Worship Lectionary by Keith Innes.
Go to: www.christian-ecology.org.uk/econotes-index.htm
2. The Environmental Stewardship Commission of the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota (MEESC) has collected environmental and earth-centered reflections, sermons, and commentaries on the lectionary readings. Go to: www.env-steward.com/lectnry.htm
3. Lutherans Restoring Creation, a grass roots movement of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America offers commentary on the common lectionary lessons. The biblical-theological reflections are provided by Dennis Ormseth. Go to the clergy sub-section at www.lutheransrestoringcreation.org.
There are also collections of sermons:
Earth and Word: Classic Sermons on saving the Planet, 36 sermons by outstanding preachers, activists, and scholars edited by David Rhoads (Continuum, 2007).
A collection of creation care sermons can be found here in the Worship section of the Web of Creation's Green Congregation Program.
